Rimi sen born on September 21, 1981 in Kolkata, India is an Indian actress working in the Bollywood film industry. Her real name is Shubhomitra Sen. She is also an Odissi dancer and performed in the dance troupe of the eminent Kolkata based Odissi exponent, Aloka Kanungo. Rimi completed her schooling from Bidya Bharati Girls' High School in the year 1998.

She was first noticed when she auditioned for a Coca Cola advertisement, impressing Priyadarshan, the director of the ad. Priyadarshan cast her in his hit film Hungama, establishing her in Bollywood.


She then played Amitabh Bachchan's and Hema Malini's grand daughter in the hit film Baghban. Her next big hit was the Yashraj Productions Dhoom. Her next releases Phir Hera Pheri, Kyunki and Golmaal have also been successful at the box office.

Rimi is now going by the screen name Rimii. She explains the name change as a career move: there are many other Sens working in Bollywood right now, and a single name may help her stand out from the crowd and stay apart from others.



Her last release was De Taali in 2008. In 2007, she appeared in the critically acclaimed Johnny Gaddaar alongside newcomer actor Neil Nitin Mukesh. She also had a cameo in 2006 film Dhoom 2.

She has romanced hot and happening Bollywood actors on screen, but the dusky Rimii Sen is dying to play character with negative shades.

Rimii is ready for her next big release, Deewane Huye Paagal, on November 25 after starring opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Dhoom, Akshay Kumar in Garam Masala and Salman Khan in Kyon Ki.

She also feels Bengali women are exceptional when it comes to performing arts like cinema, theatre and dance. Here are excerpts from the interview.



Rimii Sen is hot and happening these days but prefers keeping a low profile. Why is that?
At the end of the day, my work must speak for itself. I've never been the sort to cultivate the media or attend parties to be seen and written about. If I don't have a release, what do I talk about in my interviews? I'd rather speak when I have a film. I've come up the hard way and know what it takes to reach where I've reached. Anyway, I must admit that the media has been very kind to me so far. I haven't been at the receiving end of any negative publicity or salacious gossip.
