June 6 Part I

Monday is the 67th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Europe on June 6, 1944.



My 90 year old father-in-law was there on one of 20 minesweepers as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy and remembers it like it happened yesterday. That day my uncle, H. A. Metivier, was in Britain as a Flight Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He died on March 31, 1945 as he flew back to Britain from one of the last bombing raids on Germany. It was his eighteenth bombing run. Below is a page from his Pilot's Flying Log Book with the badge of 419 Squadron.
